What would Measure C change?
Measure C would increase Solana Beach’s transient occupancy tax rate on hotel and short-term lodging stays by one percentage point.
Who pays the transient occupancy tax?
The tax is charged to guests who rent hotel rooms or short-term vacation lodging. It is not a property tax or a tax imposed simply because someone lives or owns property in Solana Beach.
Why is an increase proposed now?
The City’s lodging-tax percentage has not increased in nearly 20 years, while visitor use of beaches, parks, trails and public-safety services has grown significantly.
What services will benefit?
The funds will be used to support a range of local priorities that benefit visitors, including lifeguard services, public-restroom maintenance, trash removal from beaches and lagoons, and essential emergency equipment.
Will the revenue remain in Solana Beach?
What financial reporting would apply?
The revenue would be collected and used 100% in the City of Solana Beach and will not be shared with federal, state or county governments.
The revenue and expenses will be subject to annual independent financial audits and public spending reports.
